Current Tax Developments
What are the recent developments in taxation here and worldwide?
Marc Temme and Willem Vunderink explain new developments in the market
As a result of two financial crises, many businesses, both big and small, are experiencing problems obtaining financing. The traditional financial market is more or less operating in lock-down mode; the only exception being if high enough returns can be agreed on to make it attractive for the financier. Of importance in this discussion is the interest deduction issue, which appears to be heading for a politically acceptable solution due to the intervention and flexible approach of the parties involved. All these elements have a particularly detrimental effect on cash intensive innovation projects and the acquisition market, which, in turn, has a negative effect on the Dutch business climate. However, it is not correct to assume that money is not available: it is, but the solution needs to be sought in alternative problem-solving approaches. This requires a new way of dealing with the money market by approaching non-traditional domestic and international sources. Taxation can be a significant factor in getting these parties to the negotiating table. We have developed several unique problem-solving approaches and would be pleased to discuss these with you.
