Dear reader,

The aim of this newsletter is to give you an easy-to-read overview of the latest tax updates in Africa.

This month’s newsletter includes an update on the pending Petroleum Industry Bill 2020, in light of Nigeria’s present administration demonstrating strong commitment to passing this bill. Furthermore, the 2021/2022 budgets of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda show that in these jurisdictions new tax measures focus on - among others - new levies for the mining sector, updating the definition of ‘beneficial owner’ - key in light of the application of tax treaties -, as well as additional restrictions on claiming input VAT and updates on VAT exemptions.

If you would like to know more about the matters addressed in this newsletter or have any feedback, you are welcome to contact Sebastiaan Paling (Head of the NL-Africa Tax Desk).

Best regards,
NL-Africa Tax Desk team
